HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) Regulations
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is a federal law enacted by Congress in 1996. Advancement in how the healthcare industry used electronic technology encouraged Congress to regulate personally identifiable health information and provide for an individual’s privacy. Two components of HIPAA are known as the Privacy Rule and the Security Rule. The Privacy Rule established general requirements for maintaining the privacy of Protected Health Information, or PHI. The Security Rule built upon the Privacy Rule, providing greater details and improved requirements for protecting electronic Protected Health Information.
Health care, processing, and insurance providers are referred to as “Covered Entities” under HIPAA. These Covered Entities must comply with HIPAA regulations. Our Angels Senior Living communities and corporate office transmit resident health information during the processing of health care claims, payments, or benefits. (See our privacy policy for more information regarding electronic communications submitted through our website that may contain PHI.) If you have any questions about how we handle PHI or our compliance under the HIPAA Privacy Rule, please contact our corporate headquarters at (866) 935-3956.
Angels Senior Living and its employees understand the importance of confidentiality and respect a resident’s right to privacy. If you have any questions or comments regarding our privacy practices, please contact our corporate office.
